Tor relays to help censored users

Would it be helpful to spin up more relays near Iran to handle increased traffic load? The cloud provider I use for relays has a datacenter in Israel if it’s helpful to host there.

That said, I don’t know how the Tor protocol steers traffic or how much weight it places on geographically nearby nodes for bridges/middle relays/exit nodes, so not sure if it would be helpful to place them there.

Hi @cat! Spinning up more public relays near Iran won’t help, because Tor doesn’t create a Tor circuit based on your origin/country. But, if run more Tor obfs4 bridges it will help users from Iran to bypass censorship!

That’s helpful to know, thank you! I’ll spin up some obfs bridges.
