Socks problem since Ver. 12.x.x, Windows

Hi there,

There’s a problem on my Win10 machine, starting with Torbrowser version 12 and following.
As soon as I connect a program, no matter which one, per socks, Torbrowser gets stuck indefinitely until restart.
Restarting only Tor doesn’t work, there’s no network or adapter problem, no firewall or router problem.
Behavior doesn’t change if I terminate all progs and connections, Tor stays in the state: “Proxy refusing connections”.
Even the connection log stops working and looks like that:

At this point the log stops and nothing happens for hours. Only thing I notice are messages in the Windows waiting chain for a few torbrowser instances: “waiting for network-E/A”
As soon as I go back to Version 11.x.x, everything works fine again.

Any ideas? Thanx and Greetings!

I have a similar problem in that Tor 12.x.x gradually loses connectivity with the same messages as above and ends up getting stuck indefinitely until restart. After restart it just repeats itself within minutes. And often a shutdown of Tor takes minutes because it uses more and Windows (10) resources (until suddenly it stops) even after i´ve closed Tor and network connection.
Tor 11.5.8 has none of these problems.

Interesting.

5 questions if permitted:

  1. Did you change anything in your config, pref or torrc, Tor or Firefox?
  2. Did you try a new install or only update?
  3. Do you use anything in connection with Torbrowser or the prog just as is?
  4. Did you modify anything regarding IPv6 in your system in the last few weeks, like router firmware, OS?
  5. Any unusual software or firewalls or host-based intrusion system?

I’m at a total loss with this thing for days…
Thanks

No, i changed nothing. I simply updated Tor 12.x.x on top of 11.5.8 thus keeping my profile. I´m using Tor in a portable version and i´ve done it this way for years and it has never failed - until now. I can easily go back since i have 11.5.8 as a backup and it continues to be without problems. I have tried a new install of 12.x.x - still have the same issues.
I wonder if anybody else are having these problems.

Keep an eye on this gitlab ticket, because I think it might be your issue:

Looks plausible.
I´m not skilled enough to do a deep analysis, but definitely worth following.

This makes sense. Thanks.
I don’t understand exactly what’s going on, but how can this happen after just a few hours with only Browser/E-Mail and like. Ok, on Android/Orbot I have most apps, even system apps running with Tor, but not on my Win machine.

Whatever, this seems to be the problem, at least for my specific problem. Greetings and Thank you so far.
