New Release: Tor Browser 11.0.4

by boklm | January 11, 2022

Tor Browser 11.0.4 is now available from the Tor Browser download page and also from our distribution directory

This version includes important security updates to Firefox.

Tor Browser 11.0.4 updates Firefox to 91.5.0esr and gives our landing page the usual Tor Browser look and feel back, removing the parts of our year end donation campaign.

Additionally, we update NoScript to the latest release (11.2.14) and bundle the Noto Sans Gurmukhi and Sinhala fonts for our Linux users again after the underlying font rendering issue got resolved.

Iā€™m getting a 404 error for the link to bug #40758. The bug report can be found at:

Thanks, @clh3! I have edited the blog post on the forum with the correct link.

Immediate issues with this release: TOR for win64-11.0.4_en-US
pop-up from Tor Launcher:
ā€œTor exited during startup. This might be due to an error in your torrc file, a bug in Tor or another program on your system, or faulty hardware. Until you fix the underlying problem and restart Tor, Tor Browser will not start.ā€
With option buttons to select: ā€œRestart Torā€ or ā€œOKā€

Unfortunately, another BUGGY release for Windows 10 users!
Our users have NOT updated to this version, as 11.0.3 is working for us. We tested 11.0.4, on a few machines, and ALL got this pop-up.

The current effort for us, on-going, is working with our comrades in riseup.net collective to use a different browser with vpn combo (such as proton vpn) as increasingly we have encountered serious issues with TOR project stuff.

Hi! Thanks for reporting. It seems like your Tor Browser is failing to launch Tor and the error message youā€™re seeing is a very generic one and can be caused due to a number of factors.
If the Tor logs are visible can you please share them with us as that can be immensely helpful to investigate whatā€™s going wrong.
How to find the Tor logs: If you can see any part of the Tor Browser, you can navigate to the hamburger menu (ā€œā‰”ā€), then click on ā€œSettingsā€, and finally on ā€œTorā€ in the side bar (alternatively, just enter about:preferences#tor in the URL bar). At the bottom of the page, next to the ā€œView the Tor logsā€ text, click the button ā€œView Logsā€¦ā€, then on ā€˜Copy Tor log to Clipboardā€™.

UPDATE: We have removed and then re-installed the TOR browser 11.0.4 on four (4) test Windows 10 machines. The current download/version: torbrowser-install-win64-11.o.4_en-US is fact DOES install, and on each of our machines, using bridges, DOES connect. ALL appears ā€œnormalā€ (when we were using 10.5.8 and/or 11.0.3). However, for now, only these 4 Windows-10 machines will be using TOR.

Thank you E06! for your continued guidance and support!
