Debian: How to upgrade your relay from 0.4.5.x to 0.4.7.x

Hello, relay operators!

If you are currently running Tor 0.4.5.x, now it’s a great moment to upgrade to the latest version 0.4.7.13!

To upgrade, you have two options:

Option 1: Use Tor Debian repository

This is the best way to ensure that your relay stays up to date. To do this, simply follow the instructions provided on the Tor support portal: Why and how I can enable Tor Package Repository in Debian? | Tor Project | Support. Please note that the instructions refers to running the code as root. Just appending sudo won’t work.

Option 2: Enable Debian bullseye-backports

If you are unable to use the Tor Debian repository for any reason, you can obtain Tor 0.4.7.13 from bullseye-backports. If you have an armhf operating system, such as a Raspberry Pi, there is an updated package available on backports.

To enable bullseye-backports, please follow the instructions provided on the Debian website: Instructions.

After you upgrade, it should say:

tor --version
Tor version 0.4.7.13.

Let us know if you have any issue!
